The Ministry of Education’s Huayu Enrichment Scholarships support international students pursuing Huayu (Mandarin Chinese) courses in Taiwan, both to enhance their language skills while fostering their understanding of Taiwanese culture and society, and to promote mutual understanding between Taiwan and the international community.

Recipients will receive a 25,000 New Taiwan Dollar (NTD) monthly stipend for each month of their scholarship award period. Students can apply for the following award periods, corresponding to their planned duration of study in Taiwan:

  • 2 months (for summer courses during summer 2022)
  • 3 months
  • 6 months
  • 9 months

Most Mandarin Language Centers in Taiwan offer intensive 2 month summer courses. Students who wish to undertake these courses during Summer 2022 can apply for a 2 month HES scholarship.

Students who wish to undertake courses during the academic year between Sep 1, 2022 and Aug 31, 2023 should apply for a 3 month, 6 month, or 9 month scholarship corresponding to the duration of their planned course of study in Taiwan.
